Falcoholic Draft Countdown: Chicago Bears, #14

1. Chris Long, DE, Miami Dolphins
2. Jake Long, OT, St. Louis Rams
3. Glenn Dorsey, DT, Atlanta Falcons
4. Darren McFadden, RB, Oakland Raiders
5. Ryan Clady, OT, Kansas City Chiefs
6. Vernon Gholston, LB/DE, New York Jets
7. Leodis McKelvin, CB, New England Patriots
8. Matt Ryan, QB, Baltimore Ravens
9. Sedrick Ellis, DT, Cincinnati Bengals
10. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, New Orleans Saints
11. Malcolm Kelly, WR, Buffalo Bills
12. Chris Williams, OT, Denver Broncos
13. Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Carolina Panthers

So as you can see, the Panthers selected Diet Pepsi machine, a bruising blocker out of PepsiCo State. Then they had to forfeit him because the Panthers suck.

Well, one can dream. In reality, the Panthers picked up Rashard Mendenhall, a terrific back who could eclipse DeAngelo Williams from the moment he steps on the field. While no team should spend two first round picks on running back in three years, Mendenhall is very talented. Can't argue with this.

Next we move into the Bears. The team really needs a quarterback, but any of the selections left over would be a huge reach at this spot. The team could also use a real running back, another wide receiver and help on the offensive line. Once you get past that, though, their offense is great!

Check out Windy City Gridiron for more info, and then make your pick!

Will Carr change the Titans draft plans

The Oakland Raiders have until today to match the Titans’ offer sheet to Chris Carr.On the surface, it seems as if the likely acquisition of Carr is no big deal. A backup defensive back who can also return kicks and punts. A good pickup but nothing extraordinary.

Pre-Season Schedule and 2008 SBNation Mock Draft
Poll Updated

First off, here's a quick look at the Vikings' 2008 pre-season schedule.  The dates for a couple of the games haven't been determined yet. . .those will get figured out as we get closer to the pre-season.  But at least we know who the opponents are.

Week of 7-11 Aug:  vs Seattle
Week of 13-18 Aug:  at Baltimore
23 Aug:  vs Pittsburgh (game will be nationally featured on CBS)
28-29 Aug:  at Dallas

As you can see, this year we'll actually be facing zero opponents that we'll see in the regular season, which is different from our past couple of pre-seasons.  Also, the third pre-season game, which is generally considered the most important, will see the Beloved Purple nationally featured, which is always nice.

Secondly, if you've been tracking the 2008 SBNation Mock Draft, you've noticed that the Denver Broncos have swooped in and selected Derrick Harvey with the #12 overall pick.  Since the vast, overwhelming majority of votes in the poll (nearly 60%) had gone to Harvey, I've decided to re-do the poll without the names of Harvey or Malcolm Kelly (who went at #11 to Buffalo) involved in it.

Our pick will go up on Mocking the Draft on Sunday before noon.  The poll will remain open until about 7 AM or so on Sunday morning.  Please vote in the poll before then.

Before I changed the poll, the player that was in second place was Louisville QB Brian Brohm.  Now, believe me when I say I'm definitely not crazy about drafting a QB in Round 1 for numerous reasons, particularly the number of other holes this team needs to fill. . .but if that's the will of the people, that's what I'll go with.

Also, in this poll there is no "other" option. . .I've actually got 10 players for everyone to choose from, since I can't think of anyone off the top of my head outside of those 10 players that the Vikings should seriously be considering.  However, if you want to write in a player's name, by all means, feel free to do so.

That's all for now, ladies and gentlemen.  Possibly more later on today. . .until then, enjoy your Friday!

Parents: Don't let Tommy Bowden anywhere near
your sons

Sometimes you can understand exactly what a coach means, if it is disguised in "coach speak".

Other times, Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden grabs the mic and says something so... exceptional... that it is beyond words.

"I've watched him practice and I?ve watched him play (baseball). He?s really good looking. If I was a girl, I'd be very interested in him. He wears those tight pants. When you wear loose stuff, you can't tell the definition of a guy's body. In baseball, everything's tight and you can tell he's very well put together."

Now, Tommy Bowden knows a thing a two about pants, but... what the... ?!?!

How many minutes of pure silence do you think passed before the reporter went on to his next question??

Former Penn State Mascot sues Big 10

Robert Welsh, who once served as the donned the Penn State Nittany Lion mascot, has filed suit against the Big Ten conference for breaking a confidentiality agreement and alledly stealing his proposal to create a Big Ten Network back in 1998.

Mr. Welsh claims that in 1998 he presented to a group of Big Ten Conference officials and athletic directors his plan to create a Big Ten network, according to the suit.

In the suit, he claims the Big Ten Conference appeared interested in his proposal so he ?distributed his business plan on a confidential basis and made a comprehensive and detailed presentation including a specific delineation of the Big Ten Network plan as a satellite/cable television medium.?

But then the Big Ten Conference decided it ?did not wish to cede control over such matters to an independent entity? and instead, the suit said, took Mr. Welsh?s idea as its own.

So... not only is the Big Ten Network not a good idea... it's not even their idea?? Yikes.

More than an exhibition

The Bears and San Francisco 49ers can resume their feud when they meet in the preseason game that matters most Aug. 21 at Soldier Field. Preseason schedules were released Thursday, and the teams that battled during Briggsgate last month at the NFL offices in New York can take their squabble to the field in the third preseason game -- the one in which starters get their most playing time.

Commissioner Roger Goodell stripped the 49ers of their fifth-round draft pick and ordered them to swap positions in the third round with the Bears after he found them guilty of tampering with Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs during last season. The Bears moved up five spots to 70th overall. Continue
