Wednesday Night Vikings Link Dump

Some stuff that I've found while waiting for the new South Park to kick off. . .

-The pre-season schedule has been finalized, according to Access Vikings. The game against the Seahawks will be on 8 August (Friday), the game at Baltimore will be on 16 August (Saturday), the nationally-featured game against the Steelers will be on 23 August (Saturday), and the finale at Dallas will take place on 28 August (Thursday).

-Football Outsiders has done Version 1.0 of their mock draft. It's pretty obvious that the Vikings' greatest need is at defensive end, so the folks at FO.com alleviate that problem by. . .drafting a quarterback and a wide receiver in the first two rounds. Can't argue that logic! Of course, that would imply that there was logic to be argued.

-The folks over at Grant's Tomb hopes that Tarvaris Jackson will be allowed to turn it loose during the pre-season this year. I whole-heartedly agree with that sentiment. We KNOW that the Vikings are going to run the ball. . .but the passing offense needs to establish itself as a threat this season to truly get the job done.

-PV's Sports Toothache, as always, has lots of interesting info. . .including the fairly nauseating revelation that some other team in the division has gotten to open the season at home in 20 of the last 23 seasons. Which one? You can probably guess. . .but head over to PV's place anyhow.

-TBird over at The Ragnarok has some very well-done previews of some potential Vikings first-round selections.

-There's another source for Minnesota sports news on the Internet. . .so go and check out the Minnesota Sports Report. The Daily Norseman will be a part of their feeds here in the relatively near future.

-Vikings War Cry explores the possibility of the Vikings trading up in the 2008 Draft. Not a move that I'd be crazy about, but I can see the logic there.

Big Cat Country:: Now with extra flare!

With the NFL Draft JUST around the corner, it makes sense to clean up the sidebar a bit. Now, if you look to your left you'll see the new and improved NFL Draft Headquarters.

Credit where credit is due, Pride of Detroit helped me with the code. You might also have noticed a few times in the last hour where the site looked a little off kilter, that's me experimenting with the code a bit.

Anyhow, here's what we've got:

NFL Draft Widget: It's got a countdown timer so that at any given second you know how much longer till we get new players to ogle. It'll also link you to all the NFL.com content about the draft prospects, videos, etc.
TV Coverage: Just in case we forget which channel to watch.
Jaguars' Draft Picks: This is actually pretty useful for keeping track of where exactly we pick. I'm still having a hard time keeping all our 5th rounders figured out, so we've got that information right at our fingertips. As the draft happens, it'll be updated with all sorts of goodness.
SB Nation Mock Draft: We're awfully proud of our Mock Draft. Last year it took us two months to do three rounds, we're scorching our previous record. Having Matt Miller of New Era Scouting offering his insight is pretty damn cool. This section will have a link to all the Jaguars picks, probably two rounds.
Got rid of old stuff: No more Jaguars free agents, no more 2007 signings, it's all about 2008 now! Still have the sponsors though, gotta pay the bills.
Big Cat Country 2.0: Visit Bleed Cubbie Blue for a look at what the new Big Cat Country will look like. I'm already salivating at auto refresh comments!

Defensive Tackle Trevor Laws.

The "correct" pick was Jeff Otah, according to my Value Board. As I explain in my reasoning, the Jaguars only get Laws in the early part of the draft is if they trade back into the early second. I like the player though and I think he'd be a damn fine addition to our line.

Your thoughts?

Peko cleared of nightclub mystery

When you saw the story about Bengals players escorted out of the Bang nightclub, were you like me in that you were shocked to see Domata Peko's name attached to it? Apparently, not only was he not unruly, but assisted in "resolving" the matter, as per a release by the nightclub. Now, that sounds like the Peko we know.

As for Perry and Henry (like we care now about Henry), who knows?
