Quick Bytes: The daily digest of everything you need to know about the Jacksonville Jaguars.
: The Florida Times-Union breaks down some draft needs. Vito Stellino does some good work and finds a few important nuggets. Jack Del Rio is only ruling out two positions - quarterback and wide receiver - as candidates for the team's first-round pick. "Other than those two positions, we're as open-minded as you can be," Del Rio said. "We have our eyes on certain positions we would like to solidify in the draft."
And: New defensive coordinator Gregg Williams could mix in the 3-4 in his plan if the team finds a linebacker who can rush on passing downs.
: The Jaguars released safety Lamont Thompson, who signed with the team last November. The only safeties on on the roster as of today are Reggie Nelson, Gerald Sensabaugh, and Jamaal Fudge. This could mean anything, from an imminent switch to Safety for Brian Williams to an indication that the Jaguars think Kenny Phillips might be their first round pick. Things will become more clear in a little over a week.
: In the AOL Fanhouse mock draft, the Jaguars select DT Kentwan Balmer from UNC. I scoff at this pick, only because I think Trevor Laws was a better choice. Don't forget, we're in the second round of our SB Nation Mock Draft, we'll be picking at 58 in a few days!
: Tight End Drew Atchison of William & Mary will be visiting the Jaguars on Monday. I would not be surprised in the least if the Jaguars drafted a Tight End late in the draft, especially with the bad luck we've had with injuries.
: Big Cat Country favorite Football Outsiders says that David Garrard is the best quarterback from the 2002 draft. I'd agree. Joey Harrington and David Carr didn't turn out so well...
: Old news, but the New Orleans Saints [signed Cornerback Aaron Glenn. Glenn, as we learn in the article, is two years older than his position coach. Good Luck Aaron, I was glad to have you last season.
: University of Florida Center Drew Miller is visiting the Jaguars on Monday.

Add to myYahoo!Tampa Plant High School tight end Orson Charles had a fumble this weekend that he is not going to forget any time soon.
According to the Tampa Tribune, Charles broke the BCS national championship trophy when he butt-bumped the Waterford crystal trophy off its pedestal outside Urban Meyer's makeshift office.
While in Gainesville competing in a Nike training camp, Charles said he and another prep player were touring the football stadium. That's where the BCS trophy, along with Gators quarterback Tim Tebow's Heisman Trophy, were on display. While leaning over to take a photo of the Heisman, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Charles said he bumped into the BCS trophy - he thinks with his backside - and knocked it to the ground.
"If you were outside the stadium, it was so loud, I think you would've heard it shatter," Charles said. "Nobody said anything for 10 minutes, then Florida assistant Coach John Hevesy said, 'What do I do? Who do I call? Did you know that was $35,000!'
"I just stood there with this baby look and said, 'Sorry.' Then he joked and said, 'You've got to commit to Florida now.'".
The damaged portion of the trophy (ie. that big honkin crystal football) is valued at $8K, so the Gators will be out of pocket nearly $4K to replace it.
No word yet on if Urban Meyer will attempt to sell pieces of the broken trophy to Bull Gators to supplement his "Dinner & a Movie with Urbie" program. (I kid. I kid.)
Charles, who has an offer from UF and 15 other schools, but counts Miami as his first choice, is likely to have several fumble related nicknames by the time he signs an LOI. Of course, if he commits to UM, then he's likely to be the legendary TE who ruined Florida's national championship... or some such.

Add to myYahoo! The Pro Football Talk guys call him Ocho Stinko. A caller in Alan Cutler's morning radio show called him Ocho Psycho. Carson Palmer said that Ocho Tardo will be at mandatory functions. Tardo is calling Palmer a liar.
"I want to make this very clear,'' Johnson told Clayton in a story now posted on the ESPN Web site. “I don't know where he got that. I made no assertion to Carson that I would do that. Nothing has changed from what I've been saying for three months that I don't want to play for the Bengals. … I want to be traded before the draft, and if that doesn't happen, I want to be traded as soon as possible. I don't intend on reporting to anything.”Sorry Chad, but your dung stinks. We like Palmer's dung. In other words, I believe Palmer and honestly care little of what you think or say. In fact, when you talk, I get this nauseating migraine that doesn't go away until Will Farrell pounds that cowbell.
Johnson has played every excuse he can think of, from being "dissed" by head coach Marvin Lewis to demanding more money. We actually don't know anymore, he just wants to be traded. Lewis is tired of talking about it. Fans just want him gone -- he's a prime example of when God gives players physical abilities but does a Homer Simpson "d'oh" realizing that the mind will be like purgatory in an elementary rotisserie oven.
But I have to admit, I haven't heard anyone feel so sorry for themselves, forgoing $250,000 roster bonuses while guys like Eric Henderson donate footballs to a charity event in honor of the two fallen Colerain firefighters. Maybe one day Chad will stop stroking himself in the mirror long enough that he can go unsung and help others without the requirement that it be known to the entire world.
And a small suggestion to the team. Not only should they keep him and sit him, ala, Terrell Owens and the Eagles, but each bonus and game check missed, the Bengals should donate that to charity.
