Another day, another rumor about a prominent wide receiver the Eagles probably won't be able to trade for this spring. Yesterday, the NFL Network's Adam Schefter reported that Anquan Boldin has asked the Arizona Cardinals for a trade. Boldin, 27,...

Add to myYahoo! It's hard to argue with Jerry Angelo's characterization Tuesday of the contract extension offered Brian Urlacher as fair. A $5 million signing bonus with $1 million tacked on to each of Urlacher's next four years' salaries indeed shows the Bears understand this problem probably won't go away without reaching into their pockets.
But, come to think of it, Angelo didn't exactly use the word fair. Or go into contract terms. Actually, the Bears general manager went to great lengths not to acknowledge an offer that has been public for days. Continue

Add to myYahoo! The Bears signed a player to a multiyear extension, though it wasn't any of the ones making news. No, the stalemate with Brian Urlacher has not ended, and Tommie Harris, Devin Hester and Robbie Gould still are seeking long-term deals. But wide receiver Rashied Davis has a contract through 2010 after reaching agreement with the team Wednesday afternoon.
"There's been a lot of talk about contracts lately," Davis said. "No one was expecting me. That's OK. I like to be unexpected. "I'm really excited because I wanted to stay in Chicago, and my wife and I didn't want to have to pack up and move again. We're just getting settled. I'm elated." Continue

In what has always been completely obvious to the fans, the Jacksonville Jaguars were named the 9th "Best Franchise" according to ESPN the Magazine. We were surpassed only by the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts.
Franchises were graded based on value to the fan and quality of the team.
Their Comments:
The Jags' one-two punch of price and performance was second to none in the NFL in 2007, kind of like that lethal running back tandem of Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor. While the Colts edged the Jags in Bang for the Buck (No. 3 vs. No. 4), scoring tickets for Jacksonville Municipal costs just $49.38 (the league's third cheapest), a cool $21 less than average stubs went for in Indy. Now tack on the NFL's second cheapest lids ($9.95) and the fifth cheapest bee/soda/dog combo ($11, tied with the Saints and Rams). So yeah, Jags fans dig not having to dig too deep into their wallets. The club is deeply invested in the men on the field, too. David Garrard, who put to rest a potentially toxic QB controversy (remember Byron Leftwich?) with his 102.2 passer rating and two gutsy wins in Pittsburgh, was recently signed to a seven-year, $60 million deal, the richest in franchise history. What else could a fan want? Oh yeah*, a Ring.
The only bad thing about the ranking was that our good friends, The Indianapolis Colts were ranked number one overall. This has made their heads big enough to fill Peyton Manning's helmet .
ESPN the mag confirms... the Indianapolis Colts have the greatest franchise in the history of sports
Yeah, that'll get annoying.
Here's the top 10 NFL Franchises, if you're curious.
The bottom three:
Oakland Raiders, Atlanta Falcons and the Detroit Lions.
I love seeing the Jaguars ahead of the Patriots, though the Indy thing is a little chafing.

In Geoff Hobson's latest, he makes the point that the Bengals are very likely going after a running back and (not "or", and) wide receiver in the top-three rounds after the possibly of drafting Leodis McKelvin if Sedrick Ellis is gone. It's safe to say that the Bengals are unlikely to use their first pick for their #3 wide receiver. Not because their picking ninth, rather the strength of the wide receiver class is considered down, by some. Scouts.com ranks Malcolm Kelly as the highest rated wide receiver at 16. And after his "I'm really fast if I run on really fast surface" episode, his stock started slipping. It's realistic that he could drop to the Bengals second pick. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if he's already gone. I'd be surprised if he's around and the Bengals pass on him after Bob Bratkowski checked out the Oklahoma wide receiver during a two-man workout at Oklahoma earlier this month.
So we can assume the following. That the Bengals will draft either Ellis or McKelvin in the first round -- just because those names appear most often. In the second round, if he's available, the Bengals will help their wide receiver spot with Kelly -- or another WR at least. I don't have any inside information on that, just that it seems marked that way.
But running back in the third?
It's honestly not a bad idea, but something has to give. It's a foregone conclusion -- well, it should be -- that Chris Perry would be axed first. He's got talent, but his health is simply not dependable. Nor is Rudi Johnson's return to 03-05 form, nor is the recovery of Kenny Irons after shredding his knee last pre-season. Kenny Watson is really the only "sure thing" returning while DeDe Dorsey has little room for leverage.
So this topic is, if the Bengals draft a running back (anywhere in the first three rounds), should they and who? (other than Chris Johnson).
