Thoughts On Texans Draft

It is safe to say the 2007 draft for the Houston Texans won't have near the controversy as the 2006 draft unless of course Matt Schaub is a bust and Brady Quinn is the next great thing.  I say this because as you know thanks to Quinn's round one free fall the Texans could have selected the Notre Dame QB but didn't because of what has been invested in Schaub.

The Houston Texans held the 10th pick in the draft and after some rumors the team was trading down they bit the bullet and went with the young guy.  With that 10th pick the Houston Texans selected Amobi Okoye.

Okoye is the youngest player ever drafted in the NFL at 19 years of age.  He has an interesting story.  Born in Nigeria he started elementary school at 2, college at 15 and played for Louisville at 16.  Smart guy who graduated in 3 1/2 years with a degree in psychology.

Going into the draft the Texans had needs at DT, OL, WR and CB.  In round one Houston took the best player on the board that fit one of those needs.

Houston Texans Focus On Offensive Line In Later
Rounds

After picking up a couple of defensive backs the Texans changed their plan of attack to the offensive line.

With their 5th round pick (one of two 5th round picks thanks to an earlier trade with the Saints) the Houston Texans selected offensive tackle Brandon Frye.

With their 6th round pick they stay here in the state and pick up UT's Kasey Studdard.

One pick left.  Time to take a flier on someone.
